Self-build plant project

Another self-build project to mark the learning process of ESAD's Master's in Interior Design students. Since 2012, ESAD has been organising self-build projects every year in order to combine a manual and constructive dimension with a design dimension, in order to respond to emerging needs. This year, as part of the PLANT - Perfoming Life Akademia Network project, Circolando - Central Elétrica and ESAD, in collaboration with Roberto Cremascoli, are developing a project aimed at the community of São Pedro de Azevedo, in Campanhã.

The first stage of the project took place on 6 February, when the students developed four projects that responded to social issues in the square of São Pedro de Azevedo, through a briefing and a workshop. In the second phase, from 19 to 22 March, the selected project materialised in an exhibition on site and in the construction of a fragment in the space called "Common Space". The general presentation of the project took place on 23 March, followed by a convivial lunch with the local population. In the third stage, in June, the final construction will be carried out by the students involving the local inhabitants and organised over several months by Circulando.

This is a project aimed at the community of São Pedro de Azevedo, near Porto's Oriental Park, promoted by Circolando - Central Elétrica, a transdisciplinary creative and programming space based in the Freixo area of Campanhã. Based on the motto of the meeting "Common Space", the aim is to promote a space for sharing and meeting for that community, and to compose a programme of activations between March and October focusing on the territory.

PLANT is a two-year transdisciplinary project, funded by the Creative Europe Programme, which aims to encourage the development and experimentation of artistic and curatorial practices in the context of performing arts, eco-thinking and everyday life.

The project is a collaboration between three creative and research centres: CRL - Central Elétrica in Porto - project coordinator -, Isadora & Raymond Duncan Dance Research Center in Vyronas, Athens and Espai nyamnyam in Mieres, Girona.
