On 15 June, starting at 3.30pm, the Casa do Design in Matosinhos is hosting an important event related to the exhibition ‘To Be Eternal It Is Enough To Be A Book - Publishing and Book Design in Portugal in the 20th Century’.
This is the launch of the book/catalogue of the same exhibition, which will be accompanied by a conversation about books. The talk, which is also intended to be a debate with the participation of the audience, will include the exhibition's curators, Jorge Silva and José Bártolo, the catalogue's designer, João Queirós, and a special guest, professor and researcher Nuno Medeiros, from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon.
The conversation will be moderated by Andreia Faria. Nuno Medeiros, the debate's special guest, is currently the head of the Education and Culture programme at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon. At the same university, he is a researcher at the Centre for Comparative Studies. One of the scientific areas of his research is the sociology of culture, through which he studies the historical sociology of the book, in terms of editing, publishing, sales, print culture and communication culture.
This session marks the beginning of the parallel activities related to the exhibition, a cycle of conversations around books that esad-Idea intends to hold every month until the end of the exhibition. The exhibition catalogue, presented in book format, is a unique document that goes beyond the exhibition itself. According to designer João Queirós, it functions more like a kind of archive, containing the books on display, plus the necessary chronology of 20th century publishers.
The exhibition ‘Para Ser Eterno Basta Ser Um Livro’ is on show at Casa do Design until 27 October and is well worth a detailed visit.
