On 8 January at 5pm, the conference Routes into Research: Punk and Graphic Design, presented by Russell Bestley, will take place in ESAD's auditorium. This event is part of the Master's programme in Design — Communication and is a contribution to the study of graphic design and its interactions with popular and alternative culture.

Russell Bestley is an academic and graphic designer specialising in design research methodologies, information design and British popular culture, with a focus on twentieth-century alternative music. Author of several reference works, such as Visual Research (2004, 2011) and The Art of Punk (2012), he obtained his PhD in 2007 with the thesis Hitsville UK: Punk Rock and Graphic Design in the Faraway Towns, 1976-84.

He has contributed to publications such as Eye Magazine and Émigré and is on the editorial board of ‘Punk’ and ‘Post Punk’ magazines. He currently teaches and supervises design research projects.
