The PFN New Creators Contest, a project of Portuguese Fashion News, organized by Selectiva Moda, awarded Ashma Karki, a graduate student in Fashion Design.
Based on the theme WELLTH is the new WEALTH and with the support of Tintex, Ashma Karki created a dress that shows a strong influence on the current consumption habits and the repercussions for the environment. The happiness and well-being of mankind are increasingly supported on artificial bases and, for this reason, the piece developed acts as a manifesto against the excess waste produced on the planet today. Through the interpretation of a plastic trash bag and the use of exaggerated volumes, the dress presented seeks to problematize the amount of garbage produced as opposed to the freedom of movement that allows the wearer.
The PFN Young Creators Contest is aimed at all national fashion schools, aiming to stimulate the synergies between the industry and young breeders, from the use of fabrics offered by partner companies to create their coordinates. The project Portuguese Fashion News aims to promote the internationalization of fashion, being financed by Portugal 2020, within the framework of Compete 2020 - Operational Program of Competitiveness and Internationalization and through the European Fund for Regional Development.
Luís Sandão and Ana Castro had won the first and third prizes, respectively, in the February edition of the New Creators Contest PFN.
