In the scope of CINANIMA - International Animation Film Festival of Espinho, where renowned names of cinema, animation and illustration pass by every year, Chris Robinson presents the online masterclass Earmarked for Collision - Tearing Through Collage Animation.
Chris Robinson is a Canadian writer and author. He is also the Artistic Director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival and a renowned figure in the world of animation film, having recently been awarded the prize for Outstanding Contribution to Animation Studies by the World Animation Film Festival - Animafest Zagreb.
Earmarked for Collision - Tearing Through Collage Animation presents an overview of the use of collage in animation throughout the 20th century, from its traditional craft use (by Stan Vanderbeek, Larry Jordan, Arthur Lipsett or Terry Gilliam), to later masters (such as Lewis Klahr, Stacey Steers, Martha Colburn and Janie Geiser), to contemporary digital collage artists of the 21st century (such as Lei Lei, Winston Hacking, Soda Jerk, Dalibor Barić and Kelly Sears). In this sense, the evolution of collage as a rebellious anti-establishment artistic tool, to its use by online media (memes, gifs, photoshop) is explored.
The online masterclass takes place on November 7, at 15:00, and is open to the whole school community and all those interested, and especially aimed at students of the Degree in Digital Arts and Multimedia.
This extension of CINANIMA at ESAD takes place within the partnership between the two institutions and is part of the programme of the 46th edition of the festival, which takes place in Espinho, from 7th to 13th November.
