Dwelling in Transition — Experiences from Lockdown is an exploratory project aimed at reflecting on domestic space, anchored on a collection of experiences/ reflections/ testimonials on dwelling during the pandemic’s lockdown restrictions.
Through an open call, we invite design, art and architecture students to share their personal points of view, poetic and artistic records, diaries or analyses, on different formats, such as drawings, texts, photographs, videos, starting with a set of keywords that evoke the experience of dwelling.
Dwelling is a comprehensive concept, therefore it is not limited to domestic space (housing, furniture, everyday objects) and its practices; it also refers to our daily relationship with the city’s space, with our workplaces and leisure spaces and with the intermediate spaces that work as a transition between them.
This challenge aims to activate a reflection on living in times of pandemic, with the ultimate goal of building an exhibition and a publication.
Dwelling in Transition — Experiences from Lockdown is supported by the Portuguese Directorate-General for the Arts, organised by esad–idea, Research in Design and Art, developed in partnership with ESAD – College of Arts and Design, University of Madeira – Department of Arts and Design and University of Algarve – School of Education and Communication. It has the support of ico-D – International Council of Design, Municipality of Matosinhos, Casa do Design, CAPC – Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra and RAR Imobiliária.
