John Morgan presents the conference Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and runs a workshop as part of ESAD Open Talks.

John Morgan, founder of John Morgan Studio, co-founder of the type foundry Abyme, is professor of design, typography and book art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Germany).

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea addresses a selection of projects conceived by the John Morgan Studioo over the past twenty-three years. The work is grouped, as the title implies, between the oldest project, a series of prayer books for the Church of England; to one of the most recent, Usylessly, a simulacrum of the 1922 edition of James Joyce's Ulysses, published in October 2021. The talk charts Morgan's journey through both the sacred and the profane.

The talk is free admission and takes place on March 29 at 5pm in the ESAD auditorium. The workshop, aimed at first year students of the MA in Communication Design, takes place on March 30 and 31.
