Joana Braga was the winner of the Portuguese Fashion News, a contest for young creators. The edition from 2017’s 1st semester had its final display and award ceremony in June 3, regarding Castelo Branco Moda 17.
Rita Sá and Ana Sousa, students from the Degree in Fashion Design by ESAD, coordinated by Maria Gambina, conquered the second and third places. Ana Sousa shared ex-aequo the third place with Diana Azevedo, from Gudi.
Eighteen young creators from degrees in Fashion Design from seven schools (ESAD, Modatex, UBI, Soares dos Reis, Cenatex, Escola de Moda do Porto e Gudi) achieved the final of this contest, organized by the Association Selectiva Moda, coordinated by Dolores Gouveia with the support of Portugal 2020/Compete.
One of the purposes of the Portuguese Fashion News is to stimulate the synergies between the industry and young creators, thus, six meters of fabric were offered by the companies for the outfits’ development.
Isabel Costa (Burel Factory), Paulo Cravo (Bloom/Portugal Fashion’s coordinator), Katty Xiomara and Alexandra Moura (fashion designers) and Luís Correia (Chairman of Castelo Branco’s City Hall) formed the jury.
Besides an access to Bloom’s next edition, where she will have the opportunity of presenting her collection, Joana Braga received a financial award of 300 euros. Joana Braga used fabric from A.Sampaio & Filhos, Rita Sá from Adalberto Estampados and Ana Sousa from Somelos.
Worth remembering that in 2016 the winners of the first prizes in the Portuguese Fashion News contest were the students Andreia Santiago, Mariana Campinho and Francisca Sottomayor.
