In the book La Moda della Moda, Gillo Dorfles speaks of fashion as a total work of art (Gesamtkunstwerk). This perception could not be more up-to-date. The field of fashion is, par excellence, a field of dialogues, clashes and connections between the creative process of design and several others fields in which it is included: industry, market, culture and society.

To celebrate the inauguration of the Fashion and Design Incubator, the programme seeks to question and reflect on the field of fashion as a frontier, in a context where the present juncture, showing the crisis of the conventional modules, presents us with challenges that demand the development of a creative economy, in which fashion design plays a key role.

S, M, L, XL - Fashion and Design Week, an event associated with the inauguration of the Fashion and Design Incubator of the Fábrica de Santo Thyrso, will take place between the 16th and 20th of September and it consists of a vast and ambitious programme, with several dialogues between fashion and other creative areas, like architecture, theatre, art, literature, gastronomy, music, photography, among others.

In this programme, the events that stand out are the exhibitions in partnership with the Teatro Nacional São João and the artist Joana Vasconcelos, the fashion show with the proposals submitted to the FABPRINT contest and, on the 20th of September, the concert/fashion show of the band WE TRUST with the ARTAVE orchestra – Professional and artistic School of Vale do Ave – with the presentation of the work developed by the students of the last year of the Fashion Design Course at ESAD Matosinhos.

In celebration of the Fashion and Design Incubator’s inauguration, the Câmara Municipal de Santo Tirso and ESAD Matosinhos are promoting this big event, whose goal is to disclose the potential of the cultural space that is the Fábrica de Santo Thyrso and to demonstrate the vitality of the innovation, the creativity and the design of the northern part of the country.

The main goal of the Fashion and Design Incubator is the creation of a highly qualified professional structure that allows, through the valuation of the existing material and human resources, the exploration of the synergies between the Incubator’s partners, guaranteeing a rapid and efficient response (regarding the rendering of services, investigation and development, consultancy, training and cultural programming), sustained by the potentiation and creation of new projects.
