ESAD alumni among the finalists in the contest Sangue Novo

Marta Estrela, an ESAD Fashion Design graduate and founder of the GRANATUM brand, is among the five finalists in the SANGUE NOVO competition, which forms part of Lisbon Fashion Week. The designer presents the ESPINHO 00 collection, inspired by her connection to the city where she grew up and the individual and collective memories that define it.

The collection takes its inspiration from a city facing the sea, shaped by fishing, faith and social differences. The art of xávega fishing and elements such as nets, sardines, mussels, stripes and sheer fabrics emerge as fragments of a local identity that Marta Estrela revisits and transforms through fashion design.

In this edition, ESAD is also represented by Alexandra Sousa, another graduate of the Undergraduate Degree in Fashion Design, who is taking part in the competition with her collection EXTENDED. The project explores clothing as an extension of the body, using the reuse, deconstruction and transformation of existing materials to question the relationship between the body, protection and expression.

SANGUE NOVO, organised by ModaLisboa, aims to promote new voices and creative languages in fashion, creating opportunities for young designers to showcase their work and develop their concepts. In this edition, ten proposals are being presented as part of Lisbon Fashion Week, followed by a period of mentoring and development for five of the designers.
