The 2nd edition of the Social Design Week integrates the programme of the Postgraduate Diploma in Design for Social Impact and intends to reflect on the impact of design in society, through conferences and workshops with renowned professionals.

Design as a Tool for Urban Improvement

Through the interdisciplinary tools of design, the workshop aims to define strategies for the revitalization of Heróis de França street, in Matosinhos, taking advantage of the specific characteristics of this urban space: the strong connection to the ocean, the commerce of blue economy products and restaurants. The workshop is open to any ESAD student, with a limit of 20 participants, and requires prior registration through online form.

Ruedi Baur has been working in the context of public space since the 1980s, having led the research institute Design2context in Zurich (Geneva) and programmes such as Urban Spaces and Design, Orientation-disorientation, Visibility-invisible, Civic Design, Design and Complexity. He is a designer, teacher and researcher, with a focus on interdisciplinary design. In 1989, Baur created the Intégral network with the foundation of the Intégral Ruedi Baur in Paris and Zurich. He is currently teaching and developing research programmes at the University HEAD (Geneva), ENSAD (Paris) and the University of Strasbourg. Recent projects include the information concept for the 4 new lines of the Paris Metro, the signage and wayfinding system of the New School (New York) and the airports of Cologne-Bonn and Vienna.
