Tony Donoghue comes to ESAD as an extension of the educational service program of CINANIMA, an international festival of animation film, through which every year renowned names in animation and illustration.

Tony Donoghue is a biologist and filmmaker. His animated documentary Irish Folk Furniture (2012) has played at over 200 film festivals in 73 countries including 23 documentary film festivals, 21 environmental film festivals and 17 animation film festivals. Twenty two awards include best short film at Filmambiente, Brazil and at Cine’Eco, Portugal, best short doc at Global Visions Doc Festival, Canada and best short animation at Sundance Film Festival (2013) and at Melbourne International Film Festival (2013). His previous short A Film From My Parish-6 Farms screened at over 100 film festivals including DOK Leipzig, Jihlava, Clermont Ferrand, Melbourne International, Telluride and Sundance film festival. Tony is currently making an anthology film called Boo. Boo will explore the life of a rural child in every European country. It also is an animated documentary.

In this masterclass, aimed specially to students of the Degree in Digital Arts and Multimedia, Tony Donoghue will speak about his professional career, based on the screening of the films Irish Folk Furniture and A Film from my Parish – 6 Farms. Besides the animation, these films are ethnographic documentaries and the masterclass will approach other subjects such as History, Culture and Anthropology. Tony Donoghue will also present part of the work he’s been developing for his new film, Boo.
