André Cruz holds a degree in Communication Design from ESAD. He is the co-founder of Studio Dobra (until 2021), a visiting assistant professor at ESMAD — School of Media Arts and Design — Polytechnic of Porto and is currently professor on the Master’s Programme in Communication Design at ESAD. In 2020 he started Sumo, a podcast with conversations around the practice of design.
He has worked at ExperimentaDesign in 2005 and studio Drop in 2006. Collaborated with Stefan Sagmeister to implement the graphic identity of Casa da Música, a venue where, between 2007 and 2018, he continued to develop said work and held the positions of designer and art director. A strong relationship with music has enabled him to design several album covers and graphic identities for festivals such as Paredes de Coura and Primavera Sound (Barcelona and Porto). In 2021, he curated the “Voices From the Atelier” project, part of the second edition of the Porto Design Biennale.
