"Behind the Scenes" brings together an archive of films produced between 1920 and 2026 to explore how cinema has depicted society’s fears and aspirations over more than a century. Developed as part of the KYRT project, which marks the conclusion of ESAD’s Undergraduate in Design — Communication, the project invites reflection on the relationship between dystopia and utopia, demonstrating that these two perspectives rarely exist in isolation.

Based on the idea that cinema does not predict the future but reflects the concerns and desires of each era, the archive brings together works that help us understand how different historical and cultural contexts have shaped the way we imagine what lies ahead. Whilst dystopian narratives warn of the risks of injustice, authoritarianism and the loss of freedom, utopian narratives remind us that the possibility of building a better future remains. Even in the darkest stories, gestures of resistance, solidarity and hope persist.

By establishing a dialogue between films from different decades and geographical locations, "Behind the Scenes" invites the audience to reflect on the systems depicted in each narrative and on the role of fiction in the way we think about, imagine and project the future.
