The aim of this project was to develop a two-seater off-road buggy for desert environments, exploring new material, propulsion and aesthetic approaches, taking into account current energy and climate challenges. The solution adopted is based on fuel cell technology, integrating a distinctive visual language for this type of vehicle. The process started by analysing the concept of energy and characterising the users and contexts of use, defining the materials and guiding principles of the design. A comparative analysis of existing vehicles was also carried out to identify functional and formal improvements.
During development, colours, materials and visual references associated with the desert environment were explored, such as the chrome coating inspired by the soil and dunes. The geometry of the chassis was influenced by the hexagonal structure of the Walterinnesia aegyptia snake, native to the Arabian peninsula. The final phase included sketches, formal and visual validation of the proposal, definition of the internal layout and CAD modelling, with Keyshot rendering to simulate materials and finishes.
This project was developed as part of the Synthesis Project course, corresponding to the Final Project in Undergraduate in Product Design. The proposal consisted of developing a product based on the theme of energy, with students able to choose between three sub-themes: well-being, fun or safety.
