This proposal addresses the final-year project brief for the Undergraduate degree, which is to design a catering space in the Central Pavilion of the Casa da Arquitetura.
"Tens uma Lata" proposes transforming the space into a restaurant dedicated to the culture and cuisine of tinned food, taking a critical look at the working-class heritage and the maritime-industrial identity of Matosinhos. The design is organised around a longitudinal axis comprising the counter/kitchen area, communal tables and a suspended V-shaped mirror, creating a layout inspired by the old assembly lines of canning factories and encouraging socialising and sharing.
The design favours polished concrete, stainless steel and white tiles, reinterpreting elements of industrial architecture and transforming them into a continuous narrative about the history of the canning industry. Complemented by a mirror that expands and fragments the space, and by touches of neon orange that introduce contrast and dynamism, the project stands as a contemporary reflection on heritage, preserving its memory without resorting to a nostalgic language.
