Tipobicho is an experimental project that aims to investigate the formal use of typography and illustration in the construction of a playful tool aimed at children in the process of literacy in the Portuguese language. The project, consisting of a book and game, suggests a new approach to typography by proposing a spatial interaction with letters, transforming words into three-dimensional sculptures with shapes corresponding to their meanings.
The project was built in order to value the child as a participant and active entity in the learning process. Their particularities and needs in the reading process were considered, in line with the interaction design, typography and illustration. This investigation is composed by a theoretical foundation component and a report of the experimental practice.
The game-book is relevant to the current scenario due to its social character, for the valorization of design as a multidisciplinary practice, for rescuing and reaffirming the importance of the book and game, for its
narrative that highlights the beauty of diversity and the importance of mutual respect in the context of everyday plural life and, finally, for its transnational application potential.
