This project was carried out as part of the ‘Synthesis Project’ module, which forms part of the final project for the Undergraduate degree in Design — Product Design. The brief was to develop a product based on the theme of energy, with students able to choose from three sub-themes: wellbeing, entertainment or safety.
The student has created a safety and monitoring system designed to track cyclists on mountain bike routes, particularly on remote trails and uneven terrain. The project combines an autonomous drone with a charging dock, creating an integrated solution for support, protection and mobility in an outdoor setting.
In mountain biking, safety is essential due to the uneven terrain, poor visibility and remote locations. VYRA addresses these risks with an autonomous drone and a charging dock, providing monitoring, tracking and emergency support during the ride.
An autonomous drone equipped with sensors, a camera, GPS, a battery and LED lights, paired with a charging dock that can be attached to a bicycle. The page brings together the drone’s functions, internal components, an exploded view and technical drawings, illustrating the relationship between form, technology and use in a mountain biking context.
