André Jorge, a student of the Degree in Fashion Design 2019/2020, is one of the selected finalists by Sangue Novo 2020, ModaLisboa’s platform for promoting the work of young designers from national and international fashion design schools.
In the collection After Your Skin, André Jorge presents a number of reflections about our body, originated from the social movement Body Positive and the work of artists Sue Tilley, Mariam Lenk, Rony Hernandes and Sara Shakeel. From unique visions about the human body representation, several references and graphic elements are created based on characteristics considered as imperfect. The collection plays with the idea of illusion of a body, redefining the ideal of body beauty and rejecting the need for sacrifice due to aesthetic alteration.
The genesis of Sangue Novo competition is the creativity and exploration of new concepts and directions for Fashion Design. The finalist candidates' collections are presented to the press and the public in a collective parade integrated in the ModaLisboa - Lisboa Fashion Week official calendar.
For the first time, the selected collections were not presented in ModaLisboa in a fashion show format. Alternatively, the public saw the pieces on video, a digital experience that responds to the times we live in.
Each finalist receives a prize money of 1000 euros and presents a new collection in March 2021, the date on which the jury will elect the winners of Sangue Novo.
