Introduction to fashion knitwear
The short course Knitwear — Introduction to Knitwear in Fashion aims to introduce participants to the world of knitted fabrics within the fashion industry, addressing both the textile-industrial dimension and the authorial/atelier perspective. The programme provides a fundamental understanding of knitwear theory, the main types of structures and techniques, as well as the role of the knitwear designer within the contemporary industrial context.
Knitwear will be approached not only as a textile structure, but also as a practice of craftsmanship, where technical gesture intersects with creative sensibility. It will be explored as both a manual and intellectual process that fosters concentration, rhythm and material awareness, also assuming an almost meditative dimension within the context of making.
The course also includes an introduction to the creation of knitwear collections, encouraging the development of conceptual thinking supported by technical knowledge. A responsible approach to the use of raw materials will also be promoted, exploring the possibilities of reusing yarns, surplus materials and waste as a creative and sustainable strategy in contemporary fashion design.
By the end of the programme, participants will have developed a knitwear fashion collection and a practical knitted sample, and will have acquired the essential initial skills required to understand and engage with the knitwear industry within fashion.
