Sound Design for Animated Films
Exploration of sound as a narrative tool in animation, from recording to final composition, within a collaborative context.

Participants will explore practical methods for studio preparation, recording and interpreting sound objects, multi-track editing, and library research, composing sound to enhance the film’s narrative. The work takes place in the studio in teams, emphasising idea exchange, experimentation, critical discussion, and collaboration. The course culminates in the creation of a complete sound design, tailored to the film and final multimedia product, in line with industry standards.

Competências
- Analyse a pre-edited animated film, identifying sound requirements for each shot/scene (ambiences, effects, actions, transitions, and narrative intent).
- Understand the fundamental principles of sound design for audiovisuals (layers, focus, rhythm, contrast, continuity, and spatial coherence).
- Use multi-track editing and mixing software (sessions, tracks, regions/clips, organisation, automation, export).
- Research, select, and integrate sounds from sound libraries, evaluating aesthetic suitability, technical quality, and coherence with the image.
- Prepare and operate basic studio equipment for sound capture (microphones, placement, levels, noise, organisation of takes).
- Perform foley and sound object recordings synchronised with the image, experimenting with creative solutions and alternative performances.
- Edit and clean recordings (cuts, crossfades, alignment, basic noise reduction where applicable), organising a consistent and efficient session.
- Build a final mix (balance, dynamics, panning, basic EQ/compression when needed), ensuring intelligibility, impact, and continuity.
- Export and deliver the final sound design according to standard production formats and requirements (stems and/or final mix).

Tuition Fee
Fully funded course: exemption from tuition fees, registration, and insurance. A €25,00 fee is required to reserve a place, which will be refunded upon completion of the course.
